homemade place cards

December 24, 2013

these sweet, little place cards take about ten minutes. and they are just the thing to give your table a little dazzle for the holidays!

you only need 5 things:

pinecones
gold glitter & glue
{or gold glittery spray paint}
holly berries
paper
gold sharpie

1 - you will want to do the pinecones first so they dry. you can either lightly spray paint them, or paint glue on the ends of the pinecones and sprinkle the glitter on.

2 - cut your paper (you could buy pre-cut paper too) into 3x6 squares, and cut your holly berries into 4 inch segments.  if you really want to cheat, you can buy pretend holly berries at most craft stores!

3 - punch a baby hole in the corner of the card {use scissors because a hole punch hole is too large} and almost thread the holly berries through. i bent the extra ends behind the card to hold them in place.

4 - find someone with pretty handwriting and have them write the names on :) i just used a gold sharpie.

5 - then wiggle the cards into the grooves of the pinecones, grab your christmas china and voila!

the roger new york

December 20, 2013

so in my next life, i want to be a hotel critic. or a food critic. i would be fine with either one.  i mean...can you imagine?

anyway - the roger new york on madison avenue is just the sweetest, most charming boutique hotel.  the black and white awnings, the blue velvet sofas, the exposed white brick, the little bar in the lobby, the c.o. bigelow bath products - they even top all of their paper products with a bow tie (!).  the staff is also quite amazing.

its just a perfect, little new york city gem.

elizabeth and james nirvana

December 17, 2013

as soon as i saw in wwd that mary-kate and ashley olsen were coming out with a new fragrance, i instantly wanted to try it. my old fragrance was sadly discontinued so i have been on the search, and i have been a fan of the twins from full house, to it takes two, to billboard dad and now of their brand, the row.  so, when the samples of their new fragrance came out at sephora, i very well could have been the first person there to grab one :)

when it comes to perfume, i am a bit picky. i feel like your scent becomes a way people remember you, so you can't just wear anything.  elizabeth and james nirvana is composed of two scents - nirvana white and nirvana black - and i am obsessed with both. the nirvana white is a lighter scent, described as musky and floral. if you ask me, i think it smells just. like. peonies. {hellooo. i love.} the nirvana black is described as dark, woody and masculine. its fabulous, i love it equally as much as the white, depending on my mood or what i have planned for the day or night. and the best part about these fragrances is that they can be worn together. brilliant. can't wait to have the beautiful bottles in my hands!

l'artusi

December 16, 2013

i wish i could tell you that i was going to be posting all of the amazing recipes that i cook, but that is just not the case. i am a terrible cook, and living in nyc just does not help my case! my kitchen is the size of most people's closets, and there are endless amounts of amazing restaurants right outside my doorstep.  so instead, one of my absolute favorite things to do is try new restaurants.

this past weekend, a friend was in town from charleston, another friend got a promotion at work, and another friend got an amazing new job. needless to say, we needed a good spot to celebrate! i had been dying to get to this little italian place in the west village called l'artusi, and it is most of the time, nearly impossible to get a reservation - but we got one! i had heard such amazing things, so my expectations were high. you guys - it was one of the best meals i ever had, the service was great, and the atmosphere was perfect.

we had the roasted mushrooms {top right}, the brussel sprouts {everything was so delicious, but everyone kept raving about these, they were so. good.}, the spaghetti {most popular item on the menu}, the pici nero {bottom left} and the gnocchi {bottom right}.  definitely one of my new favorite spots!

welcome to cocktails on mulberry!

December 14, 2013

welcome to my blog! i can only say i've thought about this day...dreamed about this day, for as long as i can remember (now and then, anyone?) - and i am finally doing it! here at cocktails on mulberry, you will find posts about throwing fabulous parties, fashion, decor, eating, and daily musings from my day-to-day life.

since this is my very first post - here is my very short story. i am twenty something years old and i grew up in a small beach town called ocean city, maryland. i went to furman university and moved to one of the best cities in the world after graduation - charleston, south carolina, where i was a wedding planner. on a complete and total whim i moved to nyc where i currently work at the headquarters for kate spade new york, and now i am doing something that i have wanted to do for forever it feels like - this blog. i believe life is all about working hard and taking chances to get where you want to go. so - here i am, in another one of the greatest cities in the world, and i hope you will join me.
