bite beauty

January 29, 2014

i felt like my lips needed some attention this weekend, so i went on a lip-shopping spree at sephora. if you're looking for a new lipstick (or even if you're not) you need to try bite.

i bought the cashmere lip cream, and it is the closest thing to cashmere that your lips will ever feel. i'm serious! my favorite part is that it is the texture of a matte lipstick, and looks like lipstick when you put it on, but it goes on effortlessly like a gloss. its amazing and i love it. it lasts a long time too. and your lips feel hydrated when you wear it, instead of drying your lips out like a lot of lipsticks do.

i bought the bordeaux/burgundy for a winter color - it reminds me of the color on the inside of a bing cherry. kind of perfect. but i am so excited about all of the amazing spring colors they have.

i also tried bite's agave lip mask. my lips have gotten so dry in this cold air so it felt so good on my lips. its thick and you can really feel it hydrating your lips. i can't wait to see the results combined with my fresh sugar lip polish!

new favorite spot

January 24, 2014

i was walking around in tribeca with some friends last weekend, and we stumbled upon the most charming little wine bar ever: terra (which i later found out, after chatting with the bartender, is the sister restaurant to aria in west village, another good spot).  we were freezing cold, so a cozy little restaurant with wine and fresh pasta sounded more appetizing than usual. i told you here that italian was my favorite cusine, so i guess i will further validate that for you...

you know by now that twinkle lights have my heart {& caroline and hilary's too}

the space is small and cozy, but somehow they manage to fit lots of guests inside. you can sit at the bar, a private table, a communal table, or in one of the sweet little windows, and they also have a private party room downstairs. and to all of you new yorkers ... they deliver!

aside from a fabulous wine selection, they have a few beers on tap.

they bring fresh, warm bread and olive oil with herbs and olives.

we started with a bottle of the rosso di montalcino from tuscany.  highly recommended.

then had the mozzarella saporita, which was buffalo mozarella wrapped in prosciutto.

and if you're lucky, the bartender will make you some special, delicious concoctions :)

we got three of the fresh pastas and shared. they were all insanely delicious, but this simple gnocchi sorrentina was my favorite. tomato, fresh chunks of mozzarella and basil. pretty sure i could eat this every day of my life.

and the tortellini e prosciutto. there are no words. cheesy tortellini, salty prosciutto, sweet green peas and creamy parmesan sauce - i mean... no words.

then lastly, the fettucine ai funghi which had wild mushrooms and truffle oil. the truffle oil was so rich and warm, and the perfect combination with the noodles.

twinkle lights, white tile counters, delightful wine, delicious, fresh pasta, friendly service and a fun yet cozy atmosphere. yup, my new favorite spot. ill be back soon to try the cheese plate. maybe this weekend... happy friday!

obsession : track pants & heels

January 22, 2014

if there is ever an item of clothing that is comfortable, yet chic and wear-to-work-able, you can bet i'll be obsessed with it.  track pants are that obsession right now. they are comfy and chic, and when you throw on a pair of heels and a blazer with them? voila. you are all dressed up. here are a few of my favorite pairs.

drinks at tribeca grand hotel

January 20, 2014

the bartenders at tribeca grand hotel can make quite the cocktail. but i must say, their branding is everything.

they did orange as pretty close to perfect as orange gets, right? it just flows so smoothly.  as did the cocktails...

we had a vodka and muddled cucumber concoction...

a nice, bold glass of red wine...

and i had the sweet jane which was dorothy parker gin {fitting}, cardamom infused honey, and lemon juice. it was so good.

whether your visiting nyc or live in the city, its a snazzy little spot to frequent.

momofuku milk bar b'day cake truffles

January 15, 2014

5 reasons milk bar b'day cake truffles are the best dessert ever

above explains everything. but ill give you my reasons anyway.

1. they are disgustingly delicious. major b'day party in your mouth.
2. when served at a party, they become the topic of discussion.
3. they can be arranged into the most adorable display.
4. the size is perfect - they can be eaten daintily in two bites (or not daintily in one).
5. they make a perfect thank you or small gift

buy at any nyc milk bar or order online - they can be shipped anywhere!

January 13, 2014

meet the coziest little italian restaurant in the west village that even has its own rooftop farm:

italian...twinkling lights...already in love...

we started with a yummy bottle of multipuciano. {p.s. all bottles of wine are $40!}

then we had the caprese foccacia (amaaaaze) and three of the "verdure" - the cabbages/pecorino/chilis/almonds, beets/dandelion/hazelnuts, and the chickpeas and smoked onions. the cabbage was my favorite.

then we all had the fresh, homemade pasta.
i had the linguine with preserved lemon, pickled chili and parmigiano.

caroline had the bucatini pesto rosso.

and blair had the orecchiette with broccoli rabe and homemade sausage.

and of course we had to order the roasted brussel sprouts.

then they brought the dessert menu, and the last thing we wanted to do was go back out into the cold...

so we ordered some more wine and the olive oil cake.

best decision ever. it was moist and lovely with fresh, juicy, crunchy blueberries on top.

they don't take reservations, but its worth every bit of the wait.
